Carnivorous Potatoes?

Well, not exactly.

However, it does seem that the humble spud (and its close relative, the petunia) have sticky hairs on their leaves that trap and kill insects that might otherwise feed on it. When these insects fall to the ground and decompose, they provide food for the plant.

Think about that the next time you're eating French fries.
